Becoming a Member
Subscription Options
Once you have decided in principle that you are interested in becoming a member, the following notes will help you move forward.
There are four types of membership on offer, all of which envisage membership of Petanque England (PE), an organisation that promotes, insures and services individuals and Clubs interested in playing Petanque.
PE has two levels of subscription for PE members – as a Club member or as a Competitor one. Competitor members are eligible to partake in competitive events organised by PE. All PE members are insured for personal accidents occurring whilst they are playing Boules, whether organised by themselves personally, by the Club or by PE.
Of our founder members, 14 are registered with PE as competitor members, Gerwyn Vaughan, a member of our management team is leading the effort needed to prepare for and enter a Club team in the Southern Counties Petanque league.
Details of the annual membership subscriptions for 2026 are summarised in the table below:
What’s on offer
Our 2026 agreement with the Church envisages a baseline set of dates and times, but these can be increased in consultation with the PCC as and when growth demands:
During the winter months:
-
1 weekend afternoon Club Meeting every month
-
1 weekend “Roll-Up” afternoon booking every week
During the “Petanque Season” (April to September):
-
1 weekday evening Club Meeting a month
-
1 weekend Club Meeting a month
-
1 weekday“Roll up” evening booking per week
-
1 weekend Roll Up “ afternoon booking per week
The Club Meetings will be organised by one of our number, so that members can enjoy some friendly competition whilst meeting friends / neighbours from across the village.
The Roll Up bookings will be self-managing occasions providing members the opportunity to organise their own games with their family and friends and providing time and space for potential new members to learn about the game and be coached in relevant skills. Club boules, ropes etc will be available for these Roll Ups.
In addition, in consultation with the PCC, we are hoping to establish
-
A Village league table, and
-
A school based program
As soon as possible we want to organise one or two teams of 3 to represent West Meon in regional league competitions (probably 10-12 games per annum). Members with a competitive instinct should put their names forward! (These Members will need to have the £30 PE competitor membership).
MEMBERS WhatsApp Group
Once you are a Member contact a member of the Management Team and get yourself logged onto the MEMBERS Whatsapp Group. Here you will be able to log into forthcoming events and keep up to date with detailed event arrangements.

IMPORTANT NOTE re PE website: Some members have encountered difficulties with the Petanque England website. The following notes have helped applicants overcome these difficulties:
1. Do NOT be tempted to click the box about setting up new Club - that has already been done and it will upset the process if you click on it!
2. When it comes to indication affiliation with a club, click on the RH end of box to enable a drop down menu and scroll down until you find “West Meon & Warnford Petanque Club”. Click that one - DO NOT be tempted to click the West Meon Club entry - that was established by others trying to be helpful!!
3. When asked to indicate which region the Club is affiliated with, go to the relevant drop down menu, scroll down to “Southern Counties Petanque Association” and click that!
