Once again we held our Summer Show “live” on Saturday, 8th August, at the beautiful Warnford Village Hall.

As last year, “audience participation” was used to judge the Crafts and Fun sections. Visitors were encouraged to attribute "prizes" using an anonymous judging sheet, according to their opinions of the entries.

In our wonderful venue, Peter Short kindly presented all the prizes and congratulated all participants on the efforts they had put in to produce such delightful exhibits.

We had some magnificent entries in this challenging year. Jane Pepys and Amanda Griffith shared the glory in the Vegetable sections, with Steve Jones having the best vegetable collection. Jane Pepys was the winner for Flower Arranging and shared the Flower section glory with Edwin Grimshaw while Joanne Horn once again wowed us all with her wonderful cookery, claiming the trophy back for the Cookery classes. Anna Couldridge took the President's Challenge Trophy with her wonderful crafts. A few honourable mentions are Penny Power with her beautiful roses, Alex Bennett with a stunning display of floating flowers, Carol Rowlatt with her tray bake, Liz English for her floral arrangement including grasses and Stephen Short. All acquitted themselves honourably. Peter indeed again had the difficult task of presenting himself with the Bill Dines Trophy for sweet peas and had to roundly congratulate himself! Finally, Steve Jones was awarded a Diploma for Excellence in Horticulture for his magnificent "Gardener's Basket" with Amanda Griffith awarded a Certificate of Merit for Floral Art, quite an achievement!

All in all, a highly successful day, with a very good number of entries, a great success in this challenging summer for gardeners. It was great fun, and a very happy atmosphere at such a typically British village event.
